Three Oaks Parkway Reaches Daniels Parkway the Same Season I-75 Starts Widening

What happens to a drive north when the interstate begins a multi-year rebuild and a parallel road opens in the same season?

That will be the situation for anyone near the Collier–Lee line this winter. On Monday, November 2, Lee County will cut the ribbon on the Three Oaks Parkway Extension. The new section carries Three Oaks across the Fiddlesticks Canal to Daniels Parkway. This fall the Florida Department of Transportation is also starting a 21-mile widening of I-75 from north of Golden Gate Parkway to south of Alico Road. Its first piece is the stretch between Bonita Beach Road and Immokalee Road.

The two projects are on the same calendar. For Quail West households heading north to the airport, to Fort Myers, or to spring training in February, the dates matter more than any single ribbon cutting.

What Opens on November 2

According to Lee County's announcement, the ceremony starts at 10 a.m. on Three Oaks Parkway, just south of the new Fiddlesticks Boulevard intersection. County commissioners will speak, and neighbors nearby are encouraged to walk or bike in. The ceremony will also stream on Lee County's YouTube and Facebook channels.

The new section is built as a full arterial:

  • Four divided lanes, two 11-foot lanes in each direction
  • A 5-foot bike lane and a 6-foot sidewalk on each side
  • A median between 14 and 18 feet wide
  • A new roundabout at Fiddlesticks Boulevard and Old Fiddlesticks Boulevard, which gives access to the Publix shopping center

The county calls this the piece that completes the Three Oaks Parkway corridor. It describes the result as a major arterial running from Daniels Parkway south through the Village of Estero and the City of Bonita Springs and into Collier County, meant to give "critical north/south relief to Interstate 75." WINK News also described it as an alternative north–south route to the interstate.

Lee County built the work in two pieces. Phase 1 runs north of Alico Road, from the Fiddlesticks Canal to near Indian Paint Lane. Phase 2 runs from near Indian Paint Lane to Daniels Parkway and includes the widening of Daniels itself. WGCU reported in February 2025 that the final-phase contract went to the low bidder, EHC, for $39.7 million. The county's October Roadwatch update gives the same approximate figure for Phase 2.

Opened Early, Finished in Early 2027

The opening date is well ahead of the contract. Lee County says the original contract set completion for mid-2028. The project is "substantially ahead of schedule," with final completion now set for early 2027.

Opening and finishing are two separate events, though. The county says drivers will still see crews in the area after the ribbon cutting, and it lists the work that remains:

  1. Three Oaks Parkway at Daniels Parkway. The improvement at the Three Oaks Parkway and Palomino Lane intersection is complete only after restriping.
  2. Daniels Parkway itself. Daniels has been widened to eight lanes from Danport Boulevard to Apaloosa Lane and Powers Court. All eight lanes open to traffic only after final paving and striping.

So the version of the corridor available in November is open but not finished. The road can be driven, and the Daniels Parkway end will keep changing through the winter. The full eight-lane Daniels section the county drew up arrives with final completion.

The Interstate Starts Its Own Work This Fall

FDOT's project, part of the state's Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, is listed on its project portal as being in construction, with the current phase starting in mid-2026. The full scope includes:

  • Resurfacing I-75 from Golden Gate Parkway to Alico Road
  • Two express lanes in each direction from Golden Gate Parkway to Corkscrew Road, and one through the Corkscrew Road interchange
  • New auxiliary lanes in both directions between Golden Gate Parkway and Alico Road
  • Accelerated congestion relief lanes in both directions between Immokalee Road and Bonita Beach Road
  • A new diverging diamond interchange at Immokalee Road
  • Direct access to the express lanes at Vanderbilt Beach Road

WGCU reported in September that the congestion relief lanes between Bonita Beach Road and Immokalee Road are where the project starts, and that an FDOT official gave early 2027 as their completion timeline. The same official said express lane construction could begin "any time next year." WGCU's report also describes a three-year construction window for that larger work.

The auxiliary lanes are the change daily drivers are most likely to notice once the work is done. At a Lee Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting, as WGCU reported, an FDOT official explained them this way:

"You're gonna be in that [auxiliary] lane, and you don't have to worry about weaving in and weaving out, you're gonna get in that lane and go."

FDOT scheduled public hearings on the auxiliary lane improvements for Tuesday, October 27, in person, and Wednesday, October 28, online. The agency's project page says noise wall information is not part of these hearings and will be shared when it is ready.

The I-75 segment closest to Quail West, between Bonita Beach Road and Immokalee Road, is the first to be built, and work on it is starting this season. Three Oaks Parkway opens its new link to Daniels Parkway in the same window. The extension's final work and those first I-75 relief lanes are both scheduled for early 2027. The rest of the interstate project runs years longer.

Where Daniels Parkway Leads in Season

Daniels Parkway, where the extension now ends, connects two of the busiest destinations of a Southwest Florida winter.

Southwest Florida International Airport. RSW's address is 11000 Terminal Access Road, Fort Myers, FL 33913. The Lee County Port Authority places the airport south off Treeline Avenue. Treeline Avenue crosses Daniels Parkway, so Daniels is part of the approach for anyone collecting family or guests during high season.

JetBlue Park. The Boston Red Sox spring training home is at 11500 Fenway South Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33913. The team's official directions send northbound visitors off I-75 at Exit 131, east on Daniels Parkway through the Treeline intersection, then 1.6 miles to the park. The Red Sox 2027 spring schedule lists a February 19 home date against Northeastern as its first entry. The game time has not been set.

Spring training falls close to the extension's scheduled finish. If the county's early 2027 completion holds, the eight-lane Daniels Parkway section between Danport Boulevard and Apaloosa Lane should be fully open by the first pitch at JetBlue Park. That is the target, though, and should not be taken as a promise. Paving and striping schedules can move, and the county is calling it "early 2027," not a set date.

Keeping Track Through Early 2027

Both projects publish their own updates. Lee County DOT posts its weekly Roadwatch Update every Thursday, and the extension has its own project site at threeoaksextension.com. The county also lists a community outreach line for project questions at 239-337-1071. FDOT keeps the I-75 widening, project 452544-1, on its SWFL Roads portal. Hearing materials, phase status, and the coming noise wall information will be posted there.

The milestones worth watching are the November 2 opening, the restriping at Three Oaks and Palomino Lane, the date all eight Daniels Parkway lanes open, and FDOT's next update on the congestion relief lanes between Bonita Beach Road and Immokalee Road.

At Taranto Team, we keep track of the changes that shape a Quail West winter, from the routes guests take in from RSW to the roads that feed the clubs and the ballpark.
